The circus offers a stimulating laboratory for students: as the research on circus is still in its beginning phases, theories and methodologies can be tested, adapted, and further developed for a largely unexplored artistic practice. Courses are therefore designed with a twofold aim: to teach specific knowledge about the circus and to transmit a general knowledge from the broad field of theatre and cultural studies based on the requirements of the respective curriculum.

In the frame of Circus | Studies all courses take place in cooperation with artists, art schools, artistic residencies, festivals, theatre venues, or cultural institutions and offer relevant practical professional perspectives.

Since 2014, courses on circus with a wide range of innovative topics have been offered on a regular basis at the Universität Münster, the Freie Universität Berlin and the Université Libre de Bruxelles.
